Golf Clinic
On
Sunday October 14 a group of Toronto Central and Pathfinder members attended a
golf clinic that was held in conjunction with the Forsythe Cup. The Forsythe
Cup is a fundraising golf tournament for the Aphasia Centre. Stroke survivors
were invited as guests to participate in the clinic as well as attend the
dinner that followed.
The clinic is run by Sari Shatil, Director of Therapeutic Golf Rehabilitation.
TGR is located in London Ontario.
Sari, a physiotherapist herself, brought a team with her that consisted of a
kinesiologist, golf pro and a volunteer (a physiotherapy student and a good
golfer). Sari put the stroke survivors through warm-up exercises before moving
on to chipping and the putting green. After which the survivors went to the
driving range. Joe, the golf pro, took over on the driving range and between
Sari and himself worked on what would be the most effective style of swing
depending on the survivor’s abilities.
A special thanks to Paul Bussiere for inviting the Toronto stroke members and
Angus Glen Golf Course for its excellent hospitality.
